How to get a scholarship
Did you know?
Did you know that the University of Nebraska-Lincoln offers a scholarship called the Robitschek Scholarship, open only to Czech and Slovak students? 🇨🇿🇸🇰
This is the legacy of Paul Robitschek, born in Prague in 1916, who donated a large portion of his funds for these specific purposes and in 1996 formed the Robitschek Czech Scholar Program based on his commitment to democracy and free market economics. It continues to give many students the opportunity to broaden their horizons and take advantage of all the opportunities this country has to offer.

Colleges often offer their own scholarships that are awarded based on academic performance, called Merit Scholarships. In addition, some schools automatically award entrance and transfer scholarships. A complete list of available scholarships is always listed on the university’s website under Scholarships and Grants.
If you choose to go to a US high school or college with an agency, it is possible that they can arrange a tuition discount for you, as they often have negotiated various benefits with schools. They may also know other independent sponsors who can help you with funding. In the Czech Republic, you can apply for support from, for example, the Bakala Foundation or The Kellner Family Foundation.
If you go to college to play sports, it is very likely that you will receive a sports scholarship. The amount of this scholarship is up to the coach to decide and it is up to you to accept. Remember that sports at this level take a lot of time and it is very unusual to be part of a team without any athletic scholarship or other school grant. So don’t let the coach turn you away.
In addition to school scholarships, there are hundreds of independent scholarships offered in the U.S. from a variety of clubs and organizations, often available to international college students. It is advisable to look for scholarships that are designed for a narrower group of people that you fall into, for example – a member of the LGBTQ community, women in engineering, Catholic, etc. These scholarships can be found on many platforms such as Bold, or Scholarships360 portals.
