The University of Nebraska–Lincoln offers a scholarship open only to students from Czechia and Slovakia. The story of Paul Robitschek, born in Prague in 1916, and of a programme that has been changing lives since 1996.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln offers a scholarship called the Robitschek Scholarship, open only to Czech and Slovak students. If this is the first you have heard of it, you are not alone: it is one of the worst-publicised crown jewels in American higher education.

The story

The scholarship is the legacy of Paul Robitschek, born in Prague in 1916. Robitschek left a large part of his estate specifically for the education of Czech and Slovak students, and in 1996 the Robitschek Czech Scholar Program was formed out of his commitment to democracy and the free-market economy.

To this day the programme gives many students the chance to broaden their horizons and make the most of everything the country has to offer.
